PORT Moresby and Motu Koitabu residents in need can now receive food donations through the National Capital District Commission (NCDC).
The food donations include garden food, rice, tinned fish, noodle, biscuits, bread and 20 pigs that were distributed yesterday by selected church pastors and community leaders.
NCD Governor Powes Parkop explained that the food was only for the homeless, sick, people living with disabilities, workers who had their pay cut or were laid off from their jobs.
Parkop urged people who could afford food and necessities to be honest and not deprive others in need.
“If you can look after yourself during this time, the food donation is not for you,” he said.
Food donations came from SVS, Trak Pro, J Mart, Eliseo Ltd, Karisma Holding Ltd, China-PNG Friendship Association and other companies.
Camberian Contractors managing director Adose Namun donated K5,000 to the cause.
“We will also assist in logistics and distributing the food,” Namun said.
Parkop thanked all the companies and individuals that had donated food, cash and other necessary support to ensure that food reached the needy.
The food distribution started with Motu Koitabu villages and will continue to other parts in Port Moresby.
Kirakira village United church Rev Paul Baiau confirmed receiving food yesterday afternoon.
“We will give food to our widows, the sick and people living with disabilities.”
