Residents urged to look after new market facilities

MADANG MP and Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Nixon Philip Duban has welcomed the opening of the new Madang town market, scheduled for tomorrow.
The newly constructed Madang town market is an initiative of the Japanese and PNG governments through JICA and National Fisheries Authority (NFA) for the people of Madang.
Duban said that would change Madang town and bring more economic value for the people and the province as a whole.
He said economic growth was one of the major policies of the Government and such initiative is good for the province.
“Towns and cities are expanding rapidly to cater for the growing population and the new Madang market with its modern facilities is timely for the people of Madang,” he said.
Duban said Madang has been without a proper market for a very long time and the intervention by NFA and JICA was a relief.
He said the Madang District Development Authority (MDDA) has provided every support since commencement of the market project and would continue to support it to ensure proper management of the market and its sustainability its importance as a public infrastructure asset for the province.
He urged people in Madang to take ownership of the market as it would benefit both the sellers and the buyers.
He called on everyone in Madang to be part of the opening ceremony and showcase what Madang truly was.
The new Madang town market would be opened by the Deputy Prime Minister Sir Leo Dion in the presence of Fisheries and Marine Resources Minister Mao Zeming and the Japanese Ambassador to PNG Morio Matsumoto.
