LAE is becoming more clean as residents voluntarily give their time to clean up the city.
Members of the the Samuke Logistic Group from Salamanda have been removing rubbish using two trucks. Areas cleaned up include downtown, Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium, Abel Tasman Street, Food Mart, Lae Secondary Road, Bumbu Road, Aircorps Road, Markham Road, Cassowary Road and the Government Compound roundabout.
Spokesperson Sam Gome said they had been doing the clean-a-thon voluntarily.
Gome used his truck to pick up rubbish around the city and said every citizen must be responsible for properly disposing of their rubbish.
“We must take ownership of our city by disposing rubbish at the right places,” he said.
“If we want a better Lae, then all must do the right thing to keep our city clean. If we do not take ownership, no one else will come and do it for us.”
