Rest in peace, Awagl

Letters

I ACKNOWLEDGE the late Sergeant Michael Awagl who passed away in January. He was a prosecutor for police and Task Force Sweep Team for the past 10 years.
He was the person behind the scenes in all fraud-related cases involving national leaders in Papua New Guinea.
Sadly all human beings are born to die.
Simbu mourns one of its finest corruption warriors and it will take the country many decades to find a replacement for him. He was an absolute eradicator of corruption and an independent State person.
On behalf of the people of Sine-Sine Yongomugl, particularly Nilguma, I would like to thank the Police Department and Simbu provincial government for recognising his service in the law and order sector.
However, I am dumbfounded that since his death on Jan 2 (no wonder, he was left at Goroka Funeral Home for more than two months) I have not seen any official condolence message in any form of media.
I wish for the government to recognise this simple person who held high-profile positions that balanced the equation of checks and balances.
People like him carry the torch for the downtrodden and become the voice of the voiceless. By their service they give hope to simple people and our country.
That his death has been ignored by the public service is a slap in a face for his immediate family and his tribe and clan.

SKO, Parua Dust
