Restore normalcy

Letters

I URGE the Government to permit the domestic economy to function normally by next month.
PNG has already swam in the fear wave of Covid-19 pandemic when a sizable number of 30,000 international passengers arrived on its shores from Dec 31, 2019 to March 22.
Yet there were no records of outbreaks and deaths.
The testing sample population were below 5 per cent of the total arrivals.
Only 7 isolated cases were reported recently.
The prolonged state of emergency by the Government will force the domestic economy into recession for no apparent reason.
Whether we like it or not, PNG is fortunate to have a hostile habitat for the Covid-19 to live and multiply.
Next, bulk of the population have stronger immune system to many strands of pathogens owing to their regular exposure to unclean environment and habitat. There are no nursing homes for the elderly to face any threat here.
Most symptomatic treatment for respiratory and fever have been effective to contain and arrest the invisible Covid-19.
The Government should therefore open up the local economy and make it compulsory for everyone to wear a face mask and practice all necessary personal hygiene measures when moving about with daily lives.
