THE majority of sports will resume their respective competition after the long Christmas and New Year recess and the Port Moresby men’s softball association is no exception.
The men’s association will alternate to host double header for A and B grade division every weekend.
This weekend will see double headers in the B grade division on Saturday and Sunday while the A grade will stage their double headers next weekend.
The A grade matches scheduled on Sunday should see some exciting softball at the Bisini Diamond One.
The highlight of the weekend would see the clash of the wantoks – Yokomo versus United Brothers.
There will certainly be no love lost in this fixture. Yokomo president Ralp Tarasomo and his band of Madang players will have to front up big Dick Bart Jr (pictured) and his young charges and play ball to the best of their ability to ensure they finish the day smiling rather than count their loses.
Bart, Adrian Chan and Gerard Pokanau will lead United Brothers against Yokomo which is a predominantly a Madang representative side taking part in the Port Moresby competition.
The Zales and Upaupas formed the nucleus of Madang softball team but have shifted residence to Port Moresby to support Yokomo team who made a return to the competition after a long absence.
In the curtain raiser match, the John Bualten-led team Kopex will have a hard time against Stingerz while the national champion, PNG Power will be too strong for the Wolves.
In the other match, Consie Bais of Defence will be up against his family team, Bears. But certainly he would not hand this match on a silver platter as he is committed to Douglas Paak and his green machine from Murray Barracks Oval.
In the breakfast softball game, Brown Eagles are tipped to have an easy game against Mantarays. Mantarays have been struggling but they have some good players who can cause an upset if complacency creeps into the Eagles game.
