A CLOTHING retailer is providing an opportunity for local artists to create and market their designs through a competition.
City Pharmacy Ltd (CPL) group chief executive officer Navin Raju said Jack’s of PNG aimed to give local designers a chance to promote their unique cultures through the design competition this year.
He said the country had a variety of colours, patterns from its different cultures and local designers needed exposure.
“As a company, we want to expose all these local designs and talents not only in here but also in branches like Fiji and others through our products,” he said.
“We want the competition to be bigger and better this year because this is a great exposure for our local designers.
“People are so talented, even our own employees and other people, but they don’t get exposure and have the opportunity to sell their talent out in the market place.”
Raju said this during the launch of the Design PNG competition by Jack’s of PNG in Port Moresby on Thursday.
He said the competition was the second after 330 participants throughout the country competed last year where more than 700 different designs entries received with a top five selected.
He said the best designs from last year’s competition were launched as part of PNG collection and were on products currently on sale.
Raju said it was a great platform for students to the older generation to submit their designs for a chance to win cash prizes.
