A WOMAN seeking treatment for asthma at the Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) died while being treated, an official say.
Hospital chief executive officer Dr Paki Molumi said the woman, a retired hospital staff, was asthmatic.
“She is a retired staff who frequents the emergency department to receive nebuliser to relieve her asthmatic symptoms,” he said.
“There are strict measures that have to be implemented at the PMGH to prevent the transmission of the Covid-19 to staff and patients, one of which, is the reduction of aerosol-generating procedures (such as nebulisation of medication for asthmatic patients such as this patient).
“In emergency triage, this would have posed a greater risk to staff and other patients.”
