Reverand praises O’Neill’s return

THE leader of one of the biggest churches in the country has congratulated Peter O’Neill on his re-election as Prime Minister.
Lutheran Head Bishop Rev Jack Urame said the government and prime minister were appointed by God to serve the people.
Ialibu-Pangia MP  Peter O’Neill was elected for a second term during the first Parliament sitting on Wednesday.
O’Neill is a member of the Lutheran Church.
“On behalf of the 1.5 million Lutherans in the country, I wish the new PM well in his leadership,” Urame said.
“The government must put God first and the people second.
“Services must be fairly delivered to everyone in PNG.”
Urame said the new PNC-led coalition government had leaders with many years of political experience and who could steer the country forward for the good of everyone.
“We look forward to working with the government in terms of delivering important social services to our people such as health and education,” Urame said.
Urame said bulk of the population lived in rural areas and it was important that services reached them.
He said the church was ready to assist the government in providing services to the people.
