Revive Chuave works division to avoid graft

I APPLAUD the Chuave district administration headed  by Marakus Warip under the political leadership of Wera Mori for the comprehensive report on how DSIP funds for 2013 have been utilised.

As per the report, contracts were awarded to two construction companies to upgrade road networks in the electorate, but it is uncertain whether due processes and procedures were followed.

It also brings to question the merit of the companies.

A lot of funds were also dished out through the district roads improvement programme, where local people were engaged and paid for substandard work.

Road contracts and maintenance works are providing an avenue for opportunists to feast on public funds.

To avoid corruption and to achieve tangible development, I recommend that the MP revive the division of Works in the district.

All necessary construction equipment must be purchased and a fulltime civil engineer employed under the public service contract agreement.

The division will be responsible for upgrading all  existing road networks in the electorate using the DSIP funds.
