RH promotes eco-friendly bags to help plastic ban

RH Hypermarket is using the Vision City trade expo as a platform to sell eco-friendly bags in its effort to promote environmentally conscious shopping, an official says.
Senior operations supervisor Peter Lee told The National that a lot of people were still not aware of the damage done to the environment by single-use plastic bags.
Lee said they were slowly trying to get people to understand the reason behind banning plastic bags.
“We are trying to support the Government in moving towards banning plastic bags and to make the customers understand why,” he said.
“It’s a good idea but we still need to have more awareness on the advantages and disadvantages of single-use plastic bags.”
Lee said RH Hypermarket tried plastic-bag free days last month which saw positive feedback.
In support of the use of other packaging approaches, the eco-friendly bags are selling at K2.50 and customers can buy one and get one free or receive one free with every K200 worth of shopping for the duration of the trade expo.
Lee said the expo was also an opportunity for them to promote their new items such as cooler bags, lunch box bags, toys and others.
He said the items were timely for the Christmas period.
Vision City marketing executive Yaom Judith Buseng said the trade expo started yesterday and would end on Sunday with participating companies located at each of the three main areas of the mall: the main entrance, the atrium and the new wing. Buseng said designated areas would be occupied by participating companies to set up and showcase their products.
Participating companies are RH hypermarket, CHM, Mark’s Travel and Outdoor Gear, Wantok Rewards, 2 Fast Motors, Cherish Boutique, Wintop, Air Niugini, Active Life Chicago, Jems Group of Companies, 2k Medical Centre, Holiday Inn, BNBM Hardware, BS Mart, Uni Bookshop and Lamana Dental Clinic.
