Rigo kicks off 13-team proper season comp

 THE Rigo rugby season proper started on a flying note at the Kwikila oval on Saturday.

Ten teams battled out to claim early competition points to start their 2013 premiership campaign.

Teams that won their respective matches were Tubutola Eels, Giroea Roosters, Bigai Brothers, Saroa Raiders and Saroa Keina Kumuls while Saroa Keina Broncos and Kwikila Varovarona were dead-locked after 70 minutes of football.

Losers K Gouna, Bore Tigers, Koiduba Tigers, Gunugau Bulldogs and Girabu Panthers were unlucky and went down fighting.

The points ladder for round one, Eels, Roosters, Brothers, Raiders, Kumuls have two points each, Broncos, Varovarona, Bulldogs have one points each. 

Bulldogs, K Gouna, Bore Tigers, Panthers, Imoty Koiduba Tigers, Vula’a and Vabulava have yet to register wins. 

Meanwhile president Fred Silona said two new teams Vabulava Warriors and Vula’a had joined the competition, bringing the total to 13 teams.

He said the draws for this weekend was Kwikila Rabbitohs meet Panthers, Bore Tigers go up against Koiduba Tigers. Bigai Brothers face SK Broncos. Bulldogs lock horns with Roosters and Junior Kumuls challenge Tubutola Eels.

He said the selection for the Rigo train-on squad for the Southern Zone trials at Kwikila was under way and would be announced soon by the executives.
