A YOUNG man from Kaintiba in Menyamya who was injured as a result of a fight between the Yangoru-Saussia and Wosera people in Lae was compensated on Sunday.
The man suffered a head wound on Wednesday during the fight between the rival settlers both from East Sepik at Back Road.
In return, the Yangoru-Saussia and Wosera people combined to compensate the young man with K3,000, a pig worth K700 and food.
Officer in charge of Police Sector Response Unit district A, Snr Insp Josephine Kumai, said the fight started because of people’s stupidity.
“You left your home and came here because of better services, schools, employment and you shouldn’t fight amongst yourselves,” Kumai told the parties involved.
“All this came about because leaders are ignorant.
“You should come out and report bad activities in the community.
“If you don’t, you will continue to face problems.
“We are grateful to the Menyamya people for not taking arms and letting the law solve the issue peacefully.”
Kumai said a 30-day preventive order was given to the rival settlers and police would not tolerate any fighting while the issue is resolved.
