Road reopening gets K6mil

 FORMER Obura-Wonenara MP Peter Gaige has welcomed the financial assistance by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and Eastern Highlands Governor Julie Soso to re-open a road linking two provinces.

O’Neill committed K5 million while Soso allocated K1 million to upgrade the road connecting Menyamya in Morobe to Marawaka in Obura-Wonenara district, Eastern Highlands.

Gaige said during his two terms in Parliament from 1987 to 1997, he got the people to construct the road from Menyamya to Marawaka.

“The people were able to transport their garden produce and coffee into town markets. When I lost the election in 1997, the road was left to deteriorate until Soso come in with funding for its maintenance,” he said.
