TRAFFIC flow on the Kumbal Road near the Chimbu-Jiwaka border had returned to normal after the completion of maintenance work.

Acting National Roads Authority chief executive officer Ponege Poya said the road was closed for about six hours from 6am yesterday.

He said they had to close the road to replace a culvert. A temporary bridge was built to allow traffic movement while the culvert was replaced.

The maintenance work was carried out by Pangali Constructions based in Western Highlands.

“Funding for the maintenance work came from the Government in its 2012 budget allocation of K15million,” he said.

“A total of K8 million was used for the road linking Kolomgu to Angura bridge in SHP and K7 million was allocated for the Miunde to Togoba road maintenance which covers the portion that was repaired yesterday.

“The funding is only used on critical maintenance identified along the roads. The maintenance was slow because of the 2012 elections and related issues.”
