GULF people can expect better roads after Governor Havila Kavo, Minister for Works Francis Awesa and World Bank country representative June Racket launched the Kerema to Malalaua Road construction and sealing last week.
The 67km road is to cost K89 million, Gulf Governor Havila Kavo said.
“The people of Kerema are thankful to the government that is working in partnership with World Bank to ensure that this project kicks off,” he said.
Kavo urged people not to demand for compensation but allow  development to pave the way for progress.
Awesa said Gulf played an important role in the development of the country through the LNG project.
He said Kerema was set to become a commercialised town.
“The need for better road access is important for the people of Gulf so that basic services can be made available,” he said.
Awesa said the construction of the Malalaua to Kerema route was awarded to Dekenai Construction Ltd and work was to start  immediately.
“The government has allocated millions of kina on fixing infrastructure throughout the country, contractors must complete jobs on time and not seek further funding from the government,” he said.
