THE owners of the land where the Fatima Secondary School is located in Jiwaka will continue the roadblock for a week unless the State responds to their demands.

It is the second year in a row the Andapang tribe from Wara Kar had blocked access to the school.

They staged one around this time last year but lifted it after the lands department promised to pay them their compensation claim.

The tribe has lodged a K13 million claim with the Government.

Yesterday, they stopped students from entering the school premises.

The tribe last year dug a drain across the road.

Classes only resumed after officers from the finance and lands departments, Jiwaka police and the provincial government held talks.

Andapang spokesperson Junior Aipe told The National that they did not want to stop classes but the Government had been lying to them.

Aipe said that they have been pursuing the claim of K13 milion for more than 16 years.

“It’s not good to make empty promises,” he said.
