Roadblocks and extortion

Letters

WHEN travellers reach the Chimbu border, either from the eastern or western end, they have much to say about what they encounter on the way and their comments make me ashamed to be from Chimbu.
Is the police chief in Chimbu even aware of the roadblocks over there?
Redundant and unproductive old coppers are helping village chiefs put up these roadblocks to extort money, smoke and betel nut from travellers.
What a shame.
When we travel between Chuave and Ganigge we usually come across three to four roadblocks a day.
It is the job of the police to deal with these people.
