Roadshow on triathlon in NGI

PNG Triathlon Association is conducting a massive roadshow throughout the New Guinea Islands region to lure corporate support and interest from people to take part in the tri-event sport.
Up-South Event Management Company, headed by former Sepik Ironman coordinator Steven Damien, was busy in the last couple of weeks conducting and attending triathlon championships in the NGI region.
Last week, he was in Buka, where he conducted a very successful triathlon event which was eventually won by Hutjena High School team.
Damien said triathlon was a new sport which was finding its roots in the sporting-mad country.
He was confident that it would attract the share of its competitors.
Triathlon has a big following in Port Moresby which usually attract competitors coming all the way from outer Lihir Island in New Ireland and other centres as well such as Wewak.
Wewak, commonly known as home of Ironman, attracted a huge following annually with its Sepik Ironman contest.
Damien said his team would be heading to Manus this weekend to help run and conduct training for interested people for their inaugural triathlon race on Sunday morning in Lorengau.
