One man was shot dead by police during a robbery attempt at 3-Mile in the National Capital District on Saturday.

Another man is in critical condition following police intervention during the robbery at JR Trading at Taurama Foodland.

Acting Metro Supt for NCD Perou N’dranou said the incident happened between 12.45pm and 1.30pm.

He said Choulai Trading Co located at Badili had collected cash at many locations and delivered supplies to shops in the city then proceeded to pick up cash along with their private armed security escort when confronted by five people.

He said the five suspects, armed with two pistols, moved in and held up an escort personnel who had come out after collecting cash from the shop.

N’Dranou said there was about K160,000 cash in a green box.

N’dranou said the suspects disarmed another two escort personnel by removing one pistol and one pump action shot gun, discharged a gun and then hit the driver’s face with the butt of his pistol.

He said policemen in civilian clothes parked nearby, heard the shot and responded.

The suspects shot at police and police fired back, shooting and killing one of the suspects with the shotgun instantly.

N’dranou said the other four suspects jumped into a white vehicle but failed to escape when they lost control of the vehicle.

“The suspects tried to remove the green box containing the cash but were unsuccessful and fled.

“The suspect’s driver was wounded and the other three managed to escape among the crowd,” he said.
