Robbers caught napping

FIVE armed robbers, including a woman, thinking that they had made a clean getaway after an early morning raid, went to bed and were caught by a raiding police party on Tuesday morning.
Police not only recovered the loot but seized four homemade firearms, a hand grenade, and bows and arrows.
Eastern Highlands commander Chief Supt Michael Welly said the armed robbers, including a woman, held up a lorry driver in Kainatu’s Barola between midnight and 1am on Tuesday.
The driver was transporting 62 bags of coffee from Obura to Goroka. The armed men and woman then robbed the driver before driving away the lorry, thinking they had made a clean getaway from a robbery.
They drove to the Kanampa village where they loaded the coffee bags valued at K5,000, and settled with their loot of K1,320, mobile phones and clothing totalling K8,380.
The robbers then went to bed.
However, the driver managed to find his way to report the robbery between 2.30am and 3am.
Chief Supt Welly said police raided the house in the village at 6am and arrested all five robbers.
“The policemen conducted a clean job and the four men and a young woman are now being interrogated for the robbery and possibly other cases,” he added.
Chief Supt Welly said military personnel had been called in to identify the grenade.
