Robbery suspects arrested

POLICE in Lae arrested four people and confiscated guns in their possession last weekend, according to Metropolitan Superintendent Chris Kunyanban.
Police executed search warrants to go into the Papuan Compound to look for suspects involved in robberies last month. Two were arrested there and two others at Peter Block in Kamkumung where two guns were confiscated. They were implicated in the robbery at a shop near the main market.
The four have been charged with armed robberies and awaiting their court appearance.
He said more searches would be conducted around the city and urged the people to assist police in fighting crime. He assured informants that their identities would be kept confidential.
He also said the 13A market at Bumbu Bridge would remain closed for an indefinite period until all suspects involved in the stoning of a bus last Thursday were handed over to police.
The bus belonging to villagers of Butibam had its windscreen smashed while travelling on the road.
He said people along that section of town had seen stoning vehicles since the beginning of the year.
