Robby: Toua showing not to expectation
The National, Wednesday July 8th, 2015
PNG Weightlifting Federation vce president Frank Robby said yesterday champion lifter Dika Toua’s performance was not what was expected of her.
Robby said it may be the last time for people to see her performing and she should have performed better on home ground so that when she leaves for other responsibilities, apart from being an athlete, she would leave behind a legacy.
He said she should have lifted the snatch on 70kg or 75kg instead of the 80kg she started on and ended up failing to get a lift in all the three attempts.
In weightlifting, the first lift in snatch is very important because that lift determines the other two categories (clean-and -jerk and total).
Toua, starting on the 80kg and failing to make a lift in her attempts, disqualified her from the snatch and missing out on the overall.
“I believe all those who came were all shocked when the champion did not perform according to expectations,” Robby said.
On the other hand, he acknowledged that Toua was a busy woman now and had a lot to do like coaching, parenting and other responsibilities, besides concentrating on her preparations as a an athlete.
