CLOSE mates and SP Hunters pair Jeffery Robert and Judah Rimbu are aiming to continue their paths together as they aim for the next stage in their rugby league careers.
Robert and Rimbu’s journey to the Queensland Intrust Super Cup (ISC) started in 2019 when both represented Port Moresby Rugby Football League in the Southern Zone trials at Kwikila, Central.
The pair then made the Southern Zone team who competed in the national zone championships in Lae.
At the end of 2019, they joined offseason team Border Storm who they led to the National Capital District Governor’s Cup grand final.
In 2020, the pair were recruited by Hela Wigmen where they won the premiership in that year.
This year, both players made the final cut for coach Matthew Church’s 29-man squad who are based at Runaway Bay, Gold Coast, for the entire ISC season.
Rimbu, 19, made his ISC debut against the Wynnum Manly Seagulls in round one while 21-year-old Robert debuted against the Burleigh Bears in round five last month.
“We both share the same goals,” Unggai native Robert told The National last week.
“Our commitment to strive for greater heights is the same.
“Judah and I started our journey together while we played in the Southern Zone trials and it was there that we realised we had a lot in common in terms of discipline, commitment and goals. Last year, we debuted together in the Digicel Cup with the Wigmen and we won the title together which is one of our greatest achievements so far.
“I believe the effort we put in has brought us this far.
“Seems like we are on the same path and I am proud of it.”
