COCA-Cola Amatil (CCA) yesterday presented 380 rock tyres to the National Orthotic Prosthetic Service (NOPS) centre at Angau Hospital.
The donation was described by NOPS officer-in-charge Rex Larry as a relief for the centre and would contribute greatly to the centre’s goal of making mobility accessible to people with disabilities.
CAA marketing coordinator Charles Bonei said the tyres where initially meant for the cart wheel promotions that the company was previously engaged in.
“Because the company had recently done away with the cartwheel promotions, they saw that they had a surplus of unused tyres,” he said
Mr Larry said the tyres will replace existing ones on wheelchairs that were donated especially for children by the Rotary of Huon Gulf.
Mr Larry said the tyres of the wheelchairs were not designed to withstand the ground conditions of the country, so he was grateful that CCA had come to their aid, with more durable tyres.
