SOUTHERN Highlands chairman of churches Peter Kundi says all churches in the province will have roofing iron by 2017.

Kundi, the Lower Mendi local level government president, said during the opening of a new church building at Werip last weekend that churches played an important role in developing the nation.

He said he would use the K2 million allocated every year by the national government to do the work.

He said every church that needed renovation or still had kunai thatched roofs should take photographs and take them to his office.

He said people needed to worship God in good buildings so that they felt comfortable.

“When we have good church buildings, youths would join their parents and involve in church activities. We need to make sure our children grow up with church principles as this will lead them to be good citizens in the country,” he said.

Kundi said many of the youths who were involved in illegal activities were children of ignorant parents who failed to bring them up in church-oriented activities.

He thanked the government for the good work it was doing in recognising churches in the country.

Kundi said Southern Highlands Governor William Powi had faith in him and appointed him to be the chairman of churches and it was his duty to make sure people worshipped in good church buildings.
