DEPUTY Prime Minister John Rosso says General Election 2022 (GE22) was enveloped in many issues and the Pangu-led Government worked with coalition partners to resolve the problems.
“We have now made it a major priority to ensure the electoral roll and the electoral process are dissected, managed and planned properly for the delivery of a fair general election in 2027,” he added.
Speaking in his visit to Morobe, Rosso said he promised to work very closely with elected MPs in the province for socio-economic progress.
“Civil servants had stood absolutely tall despite the many adversaries, limitations in terms of funds and logistics,” he said.
The Provincial Election Steering Committee had done a tremendous and remarkable job with security despite the limited funding.
“For Kabwum and Markham, it is an unfortunate and unexpected incident. Morobe is not this kind of people and we will be prepared for the next GE,” he added.
“We acknowledge the outgoing governor and the Morobe government for helping the election with K3.5 million and chief executive of Lae for helping with K900,000 in funds as most time, the Election Commission did not come good with funds,” Rosso said.
He also assured the committee that all outstanding payments incurred for Morobe during GE22 would be settled.
