INTERNATIONAL charity organisation Rotary is being used as a launch pad to promote the political aspirations of a candidate in the general election, Jiwaka Transitional Authority chairman Benjamin Mul said.Mul, who is local North Waghi MP, described as lies suggestions by Rotary Jiwaka chapter manager Frank Goi that he had halted a multi-million project by the Rotarians for the new province."This is a whole load of lies," Mul said."Why should I stop Rotary International? I am one of the people who invited Rotary to Jiwaka."I went to Australia to meet Rotarians."I actively supported their work in
Jiwaka."They used my transportation and resources."I did call and told the Rotary person that the local president (Goi) is playing politics and would destroy the reputation of an international organisation like Rotary."I said Rotary personnel could be in danger from political rivals if the organisation is seen aligning itself with local politics. That is what I told them and it is the truth."Mul produced a bound copy of an application by Goi seeking endorsement from the Deputy Prime Minister Belden Namah’s PNG Party for the 2012 general election. It opens with the line: "I, Mr Frank Goi, one of the intending candidates from Andepakan Tribe of Nongugul LLG, North Waghi wish to contest for North Waghi Open Seat in the newly created Jiwaka province…"Goi lists as his achievements "massive impact projects in North Waghi since 2009 through partnership with international communities …".Photographs accompanying the application show Rotary projects and personnel in Jiwaka and Australia.
