ROTARY PNG’s Madang branch has once again extended a helping hand to schools and health centres in the province with donations of medical supplies and basic school materials.

President Kevin Murray said the donations in kind are packed by Rotary sister clubs in Australia with four containers especially from Queensland being sent each year to Madang.

“The current batch of donations consisted of school books, medical supplies, classroom and hospital equipment and birthing kits which will be donated to Country Women Association Madang for its village birth attendance programme.

“We distribute all the goods free of charge to education and health agencies in the province,” Murray said.

He said that the gifts were donated in response to requests the club received from agencies and individuals who needed assistance.

“People come to see us, they put in their requests and we help.

“We have been doing this for the last 20 years at least and, in recent times, we have received assistance from some business houses like Lae Builders and Brian Bell who have been very supportive,” Murray said.

Modilon General Hospital was one of the happy recipients of hospital equipment including mattresses and bed sheets.

Public relations officer Irene Sailas said the hospital was grateful to Rotary Madang for its continued support in donating much needed equipments to the hospital.

“We appreciate the gifts. Some of the goods, we cannot afford with our normal budgetary allocation. “Most of the things they give us help us cut down on the expenses for the hospital.

“We are grateful to Rotary,” she said.
