THE Rabaul Redskins run onto the Maltech rugby union oval on Saturday in a bid to make it two in a row in the East New Britain Arpi Ltd Rugby Sevens Cup.

Their grand final opponents, the Tomaringa Royals will want nothing better than to stop the Redskins.

Redskins mentor Brendon Nason’s side includes captain Toua Philip, Jacky Paul, Japheth Yamban, Jason Amuk, Godfrey Stanis, Mannet Henry and Clement Akas. Nason said the Redskins would bank on teamwork and a star performance from Yamban.

Royals head coach Ruben Bairi is lining up Wesley Totori with the Boas brothers – Joel and Watson – as finishers.

The flyers will be Francis Andy, Francis Fama, Augustus Beube and the volatile Petrus Kaiat.

Aware of the Redskins unbeaten record, Bairi is betting on a defensive stand-off in the 20-minute clash.

Before the main game, the Tomaringa Royals meet minor premiers Cardinals in the Under-19 final.

Cardinals’ halfback Enos Henry and inside centre Allan Joseph Junior will dictate play, coach Manley Robin said.

A spectacular showdown is on the card between Maltech Rookies and Redskin in the U15 final.

East New Britain Rugby Football Union president Tony Namur thanked major sponsor Arpi Ltd and Maltech Technical Secondary for allowing them to use the playing field there throughout the season.

Namur is encouraging people to attend the finals, which kick-off midday.

He is appealing for business houses in the province for help for the 15s competition, which already has eight teams confirmed.
