RUBBER farmers in Central, have faced many challenges in selling their produce, Agriculture and Livestock Minister John Simon was told.
The farmers told Simon in his recent visit to Bisianumu, Sogeri.
“Rubber is a lucrative commodity which when invested in appropriately can bring in a generous income,” Simon said.
“However, it is also a commodity that needs much attention from farmers as well as the authority.”
Rubber board chairman Josephine Kenni said rubber cultivation or tapping, required farmers to slice into the sides of rubber trees or most commonly known as conducting surgery.
She said after the surgery a cup, with various measurements which varies from one litre to 1.6L is placed at the base of the tree; the sap from the tree is collected in the cup – this could go on half a day or a full day depending on the volume of the sap.
