NEW Papua New Guinea Rugby Union sevens coach Warren Jennings has named a 16-man squad from the 35 players selected during the National Sevens in Lae early in the month.
Jennings kept 11 regulars from former coach Shane Howarth’s selection and has brought in five “pure sevens” talents.
The new faces include Bougainville’s Hubert Tseraha, East New Britain’s Hensley Peter and Morobe duo Raymond Roberts and Butler Morris.
Kimbe Rebels star Timothy Pola makes the cut after years of knocking on selection doors.
While Tseraha was a part of Howarth’s wider squad in the past two years, Pola comes in for the first time, alongside Under 19s Peter, Roberts and Morris.
The squad assembles next Monday in Port Moresby for a camp in the lead-up to the Oceania qualifiers in Sydney in less than a month.
PNG will need to finish in the top four to qualify for the Wellington, Gold Coast and the Hong Kong legs of the HSBC International Rugby Board Sevens World Series.
Allan Manning is assistant coach and Michael Bai is team manager.
The squad: Tseraha (ARB), Gairo Varo (Central), Tisa Kautu , Monty Diave, Chris Kakah , Doug Guise,  Billy Torea (Port Moresby), Peter, Jason Missian, Roberts, Morris (Morobe), Albert Levi, Hendry Liliket, Gare Ponda, Gina Ponda, Pola (West New Britain).
