THE Port Moresby Rugby League playing field is an absolute mess.
It is in intensive care unit, waiting for a booster of funds to be revived.
What has happened to all the money collected through gate takings in local games, Digicel Cup and international matches as well as monies collected from major sponsors for administrative costs?
PNGRFL CEO Hubert Marupi said recently that the entry fee for Digicel Cup franchises had increased from K90,000 to K120,000. That is a 75% increase and yet there are no signs of improvement on the ground.
With this entry fee increase, we hope to see more drastic changes – toilets in the grand stand and outer stand are filthy, the sitting benches are all broken, the fences are riddled with gaping holes caused by frustrated spectators while some roofing irons were blown off the outer grandstands two years ago and have not been replaced.
There is hardly any maintenance on the field despite taking a lot of money from spectators.
