THE JUMA Thunders Volleyball tournament ended on a high note with the JUMA men’s team beating Poreporena 3-0 at Saroa village, Central, on Friday.

In the women’s competition, Hood Point came from behind to spoil a likely double celebration, beating the JUMA women 3-2.

In the men’s open category, JUMA had to overcome stiff competition from Poreporena to win 3-0.

Poreporena pushed the JUMA men in the first set 30-27, before fading in the second set (25-19) and a last gasp surge in the third set was not enough to stay the match (25-21).

Poreporena’s William Kasai and Toma Renagi pushed for their team, while Ogie Lelesi and Charlie David kept igniting power plays to set their team forward.

In the women’s battle on court 2, Hood Point found their feet going into the third set after going down  in the opening two sets (25-19), (25-16) to the JUMA women’s team.

Hood Point’s Judy Ara and former national women’s volleyball player, Manu Kapu stepped up their game in the third and fourth set to tie the match before finishing the fifth off strongly.

JUMA’s Gera Kila and Vavine Laka proved a tough matchup with their brilliant setting but their own error rate saw the Hula girls pounce to steal the match.
