MENYAMYA people in Morobe will soon enjoy radio and television through a rural communication and electrification project initiated by their local MP Benjamin Philip.

The MP has allocated K1 million from the district support improvement programme to the contractor PNG Media Unit to start work on the project.

Philip said that apart from public infrastructure in the district, he was committed to ensure that his people were well informed through the radio and TV on issues that affected them.

He added that rural communication promoted opportunities for more development.

“The level of basic services is low and I am determined to improve it,” he said.

“One of the effective ways to do that is to get my people educated through the services of media and communication.

“This will eventually open doors for more development for the people whether personally or as a community.

“This project is also for development in the long run.

“I would like to see that the schools and children, who are leaders of tomorrow, must have access to the educational programmes and information,” he said.

The service will provide broadcast of six radio and two television networks with coverage from the east to west Menyamya.

Work on the project is expected to begin in three months and expected to be completed by November.

Contractor Philip Sapau said wide consultations have been done with other media outlets and stakeholders.
