MOROBE Governor Kelly Naru has called for the sacking of the PNG Power Ltd (PPL) management following continuous power interruptions and blackouts last
weekend.
Naru urged State Enterprises Minister Ben Micah, whose ministry is responsible for PPL, to remove the management team for failing their prime task of providing reliable power supplies.
“They should stop their petty politicking and get down to the bottom of this, and do their job which is to provide an efficient, reliable power service to its customers in Lae city,” Naru said.
“We have been having too many blackouts in Lae city. This is unreasonable for the residents, for our businesses and for our people.”
According to a PPL statement yesterday, a fault on the electricity transmission lines between Baiune, in Bulolo, and Lae resulted in the power outages.
Electricity consumers, especially business houses in the industrial hub, were severely affected with some areas experiencing blackouts for almost 10 hours.
PNG Power notified its domestic and commercial users through the Lae Chamber of Commerce and Industries that the 132kv transmission line fault was being worked on and that the supply is transferred through the Ramu power system network.
