Sacked workers want govt to act
By HELEN TARAWA
SACKED employees of PNG Power have called on the government to look into the management of the state-owned entity and current restructure which they say is affecting the staff.
The workers, who do not wish to be named, refuted claims of reports that there were three employees, saying there were more than 20 affected and more were in the process of being removed under the new restructure.
“What has been reported by Carolyn Blacklock saying that she terminated three officers is a misrepresentation of the actual fact,” one of the workers claimed. “These are professionals, they have carried this organisation all this time and to say something like that is defamatory to their characters.
“We are fighting for the good of Papua New Guineans because we see foreign intrusion to PNG Power.”
Blacklock terminated three senior finance officers for alleged incompetence and negligence.
She had assured everyone that there would be no job losses.
PPL chairman Peter Nupiri was behind Blacklock “to clean out incompetence and corrupt practices so that PPL can provide a lower cost electricity”.
