THE 2009 “Yumi Lukautim Mosbi Christmas safe campaign” was launched at Boroko police station yesterday.
More than 1,000 youths would be engaged in the operation that is set to begin tomorrow and will be led by team leaders to work collaboratively with police during the festive season.
Police stations, including Badili, Boroko, Gerehu, Gordon, Hohola, Six-Mile, Town and Waigani, would be used as call centres during operations.
The operations ceases on Jan 4.
NCD chief of operations Supt Andy Bawa said police supported the initiative.
Supt Bawa encouraged the youths to maintain peace and order to make Port Moresby a safe and cleaner city.
He said a combined effort could make Port Moresby a model city for the country and the region.
Supt Bawa also commended NCD Governor Powes Parkop for what he had accomplished during the year, bringing together families to enjoy night time entertainment at Five-Mile and Unagi Oval.
Mr Parkop also announced a K30 million soft loan sourced from the World Bank for a youth employment project to be launched next month.
He said he was also negotiating with other stakeholders to support the project.
Mr Parkop said he was pleased with some of this year’s event that turned out to be successful.
