MOROBE Governor Kelly Naru says the 144 students from the province studying at University of Goroka have returned home because of the tense situation there.
Naru said Morobe student representatives told him that the situation was tense in Goroka.
He said the Morobe provincial government was responsible for the safety of its students.
“Six 25-seater buses were hired by the Morobe provincial government while the university paid for three to transport the students back to Lae,” he said.
“The actions of other students had not allowed our students to attend classes. Therefore this government felt that it is its responsibility to move out the students before anything happens.”
Naru said student safety was paramount and the provincial government’s responsibility was to bring the students home safe.
