THE National Executive Council has confirmed the appointment of Wilson Sagati as chief executive and director of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority for four years.
Sagati, who had been acting in the position, is also the chairman of the Pacific Aviation Safety Office Council of Directors, a regional body established by the Pacific Islands Forum countries with the responsibility for aviation safety and security among smaller Pacific Island states.
The Minister for Civil Aviation Davis Steven said Sagati had a wealth of aviation safety management experience, integrity, honesty and strong leadership to lead the authority and to set standards for the aviation industry.
He said Casa was a highly specialised technical organisation that needed a person with the right skills and vision to provide direction.
The New Irelander has a commercial pilot licence and previously held an Air Traffic controller’s licence, with more than 35 years across a variety of civil aviation roles in PNG and the Pacific region.
“I commend the NEC for making the right decision and I am confident Sagati will serve his capacity with distinction,” Steven said.
