Saints win, Bears stage comeback

SAINTS with the presence of veteran hurler Anslem Bunbun upset Gazelle 10-8 in the opening round of the Port Moresby Softball competitions at the Bisini diamonds on Sunday.
In the round’s other notable result, Yokomo avenged their pre-season loss to United Brothers with an 11-0 thrashing which was highlighted by a strong defensive effort in the in-field and at the pitching mound.
The big loss to Yokomo should be a wakeup call for the brethren to get regroup for the second round.
Defending champions Brown Eagles, who beat PNG Power 11-4, will need to lift their game after surprising better more experienced sides last season.
In a nail-biting tussle Bears edged Defence 8-7 clinching the winning run in the final inning.
The Bears came back from 5-0 down to secure the win proving their strength with a late innings surge.
In other results, KC beat Stingerz 7-0.
Wins to champions Brown Eagles, Saints, Bears, KC and Yokomo should set the stage in the rounds coming soon.
