ST George claimed K2,000 and the winners’ trophy after they beat Bears 5-3 in the Vunakabi Resettlement Youth and Sports Association men’s touch final in Gazelle, East New Britain, on Friday.
Bears settled for K1,000 and the runners-up trophy.
In the women’s volleyball final, Sea Stars beat Tasins 3-2 to claim K2,000 and the winners’ trophy while the runners-up settled for K1,000.
Sports coordinator George Tiden said both competitions, which started in October, had attracted interest from the nearby wards of Vunakabi, Vunaulating, Kikitabu No.2, Iatapal, Nari Compound and the Cocoa Coconut Research Institute area in Kerevat.
He said the competitions were aimed at helping youths refrain from trouble by keeping them occupied with sports.
Tiden said the competitions would be rotated among the wards to take turns as hosts.
The champions of touch and volleyball associations in the area will compete in a tournament which will be sponsored by Jireh Security Services.
Tiden thanked Jireh Security Service for its assistance and said he was looking forward to another successful season.
