THE Papua New Guinea Bowls Association says it has been going through issues in running the sport and interim president Graham Sakora has vowed to put the house in order in his 10-month tenure in office.
He told The National that during the staging of the 2021 national open fours tournament in Lae over the weekend.
Sakora said there were two factions with PNG Bowls Limited running separately from PNGBA.
“We want to remain as an association,” he said.
“We have been fighting this issue for a while.
“Recently, the PNG Olympic Committee and PNG Sports Federation stepped in and got us to sort this issue out.
“We had a special annual general meeting (AGM) and through that special AGM we decided that we had to incorporate an association similar to all the other amateur sports and the company representing the interest of the bowlers.”
Sakora said with the idea being agreed upon, a vote was taken and he was elected in the interim for the next 10 months.
He said his job now was to get the sport back on track by getting associations incorporated and dissolving the company to take the sport forward.
“The Commonwealth Games is coming up next year and we want to get this sport to where it deserves to be,” Sakora said.
“That will be my aim for the next 10 months.”
