CLOSE to 500 Zumin villagers in Markham, Morobe, hit by a major flood in November which limited their food supply, were assisted by a Salvation Army disaster response team last Thursday.

Men, women and children shed tears when the team from Salvation Army’s north coastal division based in Lae and headed by Major George Karogo arrived at the village with the 162 bags of 5kg rice, 27 bales of 1kg packets of rice, 10 cartons of canned fish and 45 cartons of noodles donated by Nestle PNG.

“We are thankful to Nestle for assisting us to help those who are in great need, which in this case were the Zumin people who were displaced by the flood,” Karogo said.

Jersey Bunum, chief of the Zumin village, thanked the Salvation Army team for its assistance, saying this was the second time for the villagers to receive relief supplies from the mission.
