THE Samaritan Aviation, a Wewak-based charity organisation that provides free air ambulance services to remote districts around the Sepik area, has received K100,000 from the Ambunti-Dreikikeir development authority (DDA), its third annual payment.Ambunti-Dreikikeir MP Johnson Wapunai said the district recognised the important role of Samaritan in delivering health services, especially to the Sepik River population.“We are giving the annual allocation for Samaritan to continue extending medevac services and to remain operational,” Wapunai said.“Our patients are underprivileged and are unable to meet the cost of travelling to the nearest hospital. “That is why we are putting in money every year to ensure that patients get transported by air during emergencies or mercy flights.“The biggest concern is to save lives.“I am also appealing to two fellow MPs for the river electorates, Wosera Gawi and Angoram development authority to support the operations of Samaritan so that they can continue to help our people.”Meanwhile, three new marine ambulances bought by the Ambunti-Dreikikeir development authority will also be delivered to health facilities in the district this month.
