Samb not happy members leave the House once the camera is turned off

Minister Assisting Prime Minister and Goilala MP William Samb says MPs have a responsibility to represent their people in a meaningful debate during parliamentary sessions.
“Regarding the level of performance in the chamber, irrespective of who we are, our people voted us because we told them that we are going to represent them in this house,” Samb told Parliament last week. “I find it hard to see every time the question time is over and the television cameras crew is leaving, a lot of MPs from both sides of the house also leave.
“We are here to talk when camera is here, we are not here to please the camera. We are here to talk about issues for our districts, provinces and our country.”
Samb pointed out to Deputy Speaker Jeffrey Komal that every MP should be given equal opportunity to speak.
“All of us want to speak but the same old people are talking, continuous interjections and point of orders interrupting the session – takes up a lot of time,” he said.
“Every time after lunch, most MPs leave and there is just a mere quorum.”
Samb called for the standing orders to be revised to ensure there is some form of discipline in the house.
“Come up with plans to ensure that we are given equal opportunity as MPs and also control the number of point of orders and interjections.
“Also ensure that MPs do not leave Parliament during session. We are paid to perform and we are here –both sides of the house.”
