COACH of the Samoan women’s cricket team Ian West says they are ready to take on the PNG Lewas on Friday in what is regarded a crunch match.

West said they were ready to take on the home side.

“We definitely have a chance against PNG on Friday although we have to focus on our games against Fiji and Cook Islands first,” he said.

“We know at the back of our minds that it is going to be a very big game at the end of the week and winning gold will be a huge achievement for us. I have been involved with Samoa cricket for a while and we have always had star players. But this time it feels different as most of the players have depth which we can use to beat PNG, which is a very good team, who have 14, 15 good players.

“We need to improve on our fielding, when we talk about playing PNG. They won’t let us get away with mistakes. We made mistakes in our last games but we’ve got away because we bowled and batted well.”

West said they have a strategy to play against PNG, and that was to play simple and do every little thing right.

“We will just focus on what we do well, execute our skills well and hopefully get the right result,” West said.
