Sandaun’s administration success unveiled in Lae

SANDAUN administrator Joe Sungi said his province’s success has been attributed to stability – “key factor in administration”.
He added the administration was also able to work with companies and the communities to get developmental projects done.
He gave an example as the Aitape-Vanimo road which he said his administration had been able to connect “without any government assistance”.
The road was completed by the Vanimo Trucking Company.
Another major project that the administration is currently working on would be to get the remote Telefomin district up and working.
The district has been without a lot of basic government services over the years “and it was time something had to be done”.
There are already three police officers’ houses. Another would be built for a bank officer to revive banking services.
Mr Sungi said he was working in line with Vision 2050  but “money has not been the only stumbling block to development”.
“What matters is performing a task and doing it with your heart – because if your heart is not in it, then it will not work.”
Another administrator, Madang’s Joseph Dorpar, said the rural people had been denied basic services “for too long”.
The situation could only be improved with good management, he said.
He said Madang emphasised the need for effective implementation of services to the district and ward levels.
He said of the six Madang districts, only two – Madang and Sumkar – weredeveloped.
He said he was aligning Madang with Vision 2050.
“Basic planning is already underway in the province with Bogia district ahead in completing its ward planning,” he said.
