A CALL has been made for all women in the country to join hands in the national haus krai (house of mourning) initiative to be staged on May 14 and 15.

Women in Business founder Janet Sape said women must rally together and petition the government and “say enough is enough” on women being the target of violent crimes.

“The national haus krai this month is in remembrance of women who lost their lives through violent crimes and for us it is also a time when the women say enough is enough,” Sape said yesterday.

“Let women come out and speak through the Women Arise movement.”

She commended the government for taking some action in light of the recent crimes against women however she said current laws needed to be strengthened to further protect women.

“It is an opportunity for us to also present a petition to the government to step in and take tougher measures on issues relating to women so we can find long term solutions so that women can feel safe and move freely without fear in our society,” Sape said.

As a signatory to the initiative, Sape said there were many women groups and organisations which would move together with the Women Arise movement.
