UNDERRATED fullback Junior Sasu made a 35-metre power strike to equalise against FC Port Moresby in a Telikom National Soccer League match at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby yesterday.

The Alotau District-sponsored Easter Stars and FC Port Moresby 1-1 draw was the main game of a double header in the capital.

In the early match, NC Civil Works Oro won 2-1 over Welgris Highlanders. The win brought joy for Oro supporters who came in numbers to barrack for their team.

Trailing 1-0 at half time, the Stars were made to work for an equaliser.

FC Port Moresby led with a David Beckham-like curved corner kick by Niel Hans to put them in front.

However, the Stars with their never-say-die attitude kept on putting pressure on FC Port Moresby.

Sensing the game slipping away, FC Port Moresby coach Reginald Davani started to inject new blood.

Stars franchise owner Joseph Ealadona had to take over the coaching role and was assisted by former PNG Under-23 striker David Kaepapa.

FC Port Moresby have no excuses for the draw as they have a lot of international players.

In Kimbe, WNB Tavur, under the watchful eyes of Posman Paliau, stunned Besta PNG United 2-1 at Kimbe Soccer Oval.

The victory is a first for the West New Britain franchise after having only one drawn match against Eastern Stars in their first home game.

The points ladder after this weekend is: Hekari 22, Besta 19, FC POM 15, Gigira Laitepo FC 14, Eastern Stars 11, NC Civil Oro FC 10, WNB Tavur 7 and Welgris 5.
